Job description

Are you a passionate reader who loves recommending books and media to friends and family? Do you enjoy helping others and working with technology? Cook Memorial Public Library District is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, customer service-oriented individual to join our Readers' Services team. Ideal applicants are flexible, curious, well-versed in current fiction and media, adaptable to new services and technologies, and dedicated to excellent patron service.
HOURS
Part-time (22 hours per week), including evening hours and weekend rotation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Staff adult services desk at two Library locations, providing reference services and technology assistance. Provide additional desk coverage as needed.
  • Provide adult readers' and media advisory service, both in-person and online. Maintain knowledge of adult popular fiction in a variety of genres.
  • Select and manage a portion of the Adult Fiction collection.
  • Plan and organize book-related programming.
  • Lead one monthly adult book club.
  • Provide a variety of readers' advisory services, including book talking, writing reviews, and creating Library displays and print materials.
  • Assist patrons in the use of electronic products, including the Library's website, online catalog systems, downloadable materials, and electronic databases.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Customer service experience, library service desk experience preferred.
  • Avid reader, viewer, and listener with a wide range of genre experience relevant to tasks and patron interactions.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong technology aptitude. Knowledge of and experience with digital devices and platforms such as Libby, Hoopla, CloudLibrary and Kanopy.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
SALARY & BENEFITS
Anticipated pay range $22.00-$23.00 per hour DOQ. Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Optional vision, dental and 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Paid vacation, sick, parental leave and scheduled holidays. Premium pay on Sundays. Cost of living increases and merit bonuses.
