Job description

Job Summary
Provides direct care as assigned. Performs patient phlebotomy as assigned. May require access to storage areas where medications are kept and carry out procedures that require the use of non-prescription medications.
Essential Functions
  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Performs responsibilities accurately, timely, and safely for assigned patients/area
  • Communicates and informs appropriate personnel, patients and family members of pertinent information in a timely manner
  • Maintains accurate paper and electronic documentation
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies safely and appropriately; orders supplies as needed; labels specimens correctly
  • Performs basic nursing care, simple and complex procedures, multiple treatments, waived testing and transports assigned patients
  • Shows proficiency in blood collection and performs task in timely and accurate manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory/Management Responsibility
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Successful completion of tech training course as evidenced by Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam or nursing fundamentals from accredited organization. Successful completion of a phlebotomy course from an accredited organization required. Medical Assistant Training acceptable. High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience - One (1) year of nurse tech hospital experience or skilled nursing facility is required if the candidate does not meet all of the educational requirements. Two (2) years NT/NA experience preferred. Three (3) months of phlebotomy experience preferred.

In Lieu Of
  • In lieu of school verification of a nursing assistant training course, will accept current or former state CN A certification as proof of completed state required training at time of hire.
  • In lieu of school verification of a medical assistant training course, will accept current or former CMA certification as proof of completed required training at time of hire.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
  • Heart saver certification
  • Candidate must successfully complete System's phlebotomy course and training within 90 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Computer proficiency.
