What is a patient sitter float pool?

Patient Sitter Float Pool jobs involve providing one-on-one observation and support to patients in hospitals or healthcare facilities who need extra monitoring for safety reasons, such as those at risk of falling, confusion, or self-harm. The 'float pool' aspect means these sitters are assigned to different units or departments as needed, depending on staffing shortages or patient needs. Patient sitters work closely with nursing staff to ensure patient safety, comfort, and adherence to care protocols. Flexibility and adaptability are important, as assignments can change frequently based on where support is most needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a patient sitter float pool?

These abilities are crucial for promptly responding to patient needs and ensuring a safe, supportive healthcare environment across various hospital units.

How does working as a patient sitter in a float pool differ from working on a dedicated unit?

You'll work closely with different nursing teams to monitor patients who need extra supervision for safety reasons, such as those at risk of falls or with behavioral health concerns. The float pool structure offers exposure to diverse clinical environments and can be a great way to learn about different specialties while building a broad skill set.
