Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Patient Registration registers and pre-registers patients for hospital and clinic services. This associate obtains demographic, financial, pre-certification or authorization information.

JOB DUTIES:

• Provide prompt and accurate service to promote high standards and quality

• Collect deductibles, co-insurance, and non-covered charges as outlined by policy

• Answer incoming calls and visits regarding patient accounts; explain financial policies to patients

• Research account issues; correct and/or initiate correction of errors

• Initiate outgoing telephone contact with patients for payments and payment arrangements

• Assist with registration and medical records as necessary

• Prepare standard registration/admission forms for patients or transfer-related tasks

• Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy

The Patient Registration assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff, and the public

• Detail-oriented with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Computer skills, including MS Office, Outlook, Meditech, preferred

• Ability to move, position self, consistently operate various types of equipment, able to detect/observe/identify details at close or distant range with or without accommodations, as well as exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and or 10 pounds of force frequently, or negligible constantly. Walking or standing to a significant degree, or sitting constantly, and pushing/pulling controls

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• H.S. Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent work experience in field, required

• 1 year experience in medical scheduling or medical office, preferred
