JOB OVERVIEW:

As a Food Service Worker, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for our patients, visitors, and team members. By supporting the daily operations of the kitchen, tray line, and dish room, you'll help ensure every meal is prepared, delivered, and served safely, efficiently, and with care. Your commitment to food service excellence, teamwork, and customer service directly contributes to the exceptional patient experience that defines RWJBarnabas Health.

As a Food Service Worker, a typical day might include the following:

  • Serve on the tray assembly line in assigned positions involving starters, servers, soups, desserts, and hot beverages.
  • Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties as directed.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment.
  • Collect, process, and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, and waste.
  • Correctly label and date portioned food products.
  • Deliver and pick up patient meal trays according to department policy.
  • Maintain established food preparation policies, procedures, standards, and quality expectations.
  • Perform general routine cleaning duties and non-round duties as assigned.
  • Prepare, load, transport, and strip food trucks; scrape plates and pre-soak silverware.
  • Communicate patient questions or concerns to the Diet Office and notify nursing staff when assistance is needed.
