Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Med/Surg 7C unit at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank location in Minneapolis, MN.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift. This position will also work every third weekend rotation.

About 7C:

  • Adult patients that require general medical care (pulmonary, rheumatology, renal, infectious disease, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and cardiac monitoring of medicine patients)
  • Bed Capacity: 38
  • Cares for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit and performs advanced monitoring using current technology
  • Manages complex medication and infusion therapies
  • Patient Ratios:  Day shift 3-4 patients, evening shift 3-4 patients, night shift 4-5 patients

The University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two campuses and dozens of adult specialty clinics on located on both the East and West banks of the UMMC campus in Minneapolis. It is the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.

  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and the MN Nurse Practice Act

New Grad Residency: The Nurse Residency Program is designed to bridge the gap between academia and real-world clinical practice as new grad/novice nurses make transition from nursing school to hospital nursing practice. This program offers an organized, structured, and practice-based learning environment that helps newly graduated nurses’ transition smoothly into the dynamic and fast-paced world of healthcare. This program is a testament to our commitment to fostering the growth and development of our nursing team by providing an environment where new nurses can learn and supplementing the work that our nurse preceptors do with new orientees.

  • Structured Learning: Nurse residents will engage in a structured curriculum as part of program (8 hours of learning every 2 months for 12 months) that covers essential skills like time management, interprofessional teaming, communication, wellbeing, social determinants of health, critical thinking, and more! This program aims to deliver a confident, competent graduating cohort.
  • Mentorship: Each resident will encounter several mentorship opportunities throughout the program to claim the guidance, support, and valuable insights needed to thrive.
  • Networking: Residents can connect with their peers, build relationships, and collaborate on practice-based learning opportunities.
  • Hands-On Experience: The program includes hands-on clinical experiences to help nurses apply their knowledge in real healthcare scenarios; we are piloting virtual reality as a formative learning experience!

Required Qualifications:

  • MN RN License
  • BLS required
  • Associates Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN or higher preferred
  • Certification in related specialty
  • One year of current medical/surgical RN experience in a hospital setting is desired
