Job description

Overview

Patients feel comfortable seeking your advice on meals and snacks because of your keen understanding of dietary restrictions and your ability to recommend the best food options. Your caring and competent nature aligns perfectly with Legacy's mission of making life better for others.

As a natural "people person," the Patient Dining Assistant communicates directly with patients-in person or by phone-to assist with meal ordering based on their dietary needs. As a valued member of the food and nutrition team, you accurately input menu selections, respond promptly to nursing unit requests, and ensure that patients' meals consistently adhere to prescribed diet orders.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional quality and service to patients on assigned inpatient floors throughout the hospital.
  • Designated meal service contact for patients, ensuring all service interactions are to Legacy System standards of excellence for quality, professionalism, and friendliness.
  • Provides high quality, personalized customer service with focused attention to detail.
  • Analyzes complex therapeutic diet information in electronic medical record (EPIC) and cross-checks data in food service software system (Computrition) to ensure patient safety and compliance with physician orders prior to obtaining patients' orders. 
  • Obtains and honors patient food selections and preferences.
  • Delivers meals, snacks, and beverages in a timely fashion.
  • Accurately follows appropriate patient identification procedures and therapeutic diet orders.
  • Utilizes current food service ordering software and technology with proficiency.
  • Independently manages time with the utmost efficiency and responds promptly to patient requests.
  • Responsible for handling all concerns related to meal service, verifying accuracy of orders, quality of presentation, and the provision of solutions through service recovery.
  • Strives to meet and exceed patient and Legacy Health System expectations.
  • Adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Upholds the Legacy Health System core values and standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: 

  • Experience in customer service, healthcare, food and hospitality or hotel environment, and computer operations required.
  • Experience in high volume call center, and food service operations with knowledge of therapeutic diets are preferred.
  • Registered Diet Technician preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to set and deliver quality meal service as ordered on time, hot and in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Proven food and beverage knowledge. Thorough knowledge of quality food service techniques and standards.
  • Exhibits a professional attitude. Must be well-versed in hospitality, attention to detail, and quality control.
  • Must always maintain confidentiality and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Must possess the knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the assigned position.
Licensure
  • Current Food Handler's Certificate/Card for applicable County/State.

  • Registered Diet Technician preferred.
