Overview

As a member of a High Reliability Organization (HRO), all employees are expected to practice CHAMP and STAR behaviors with the end goal of patient safety as the top priority. Individuals shall embody and uphold the ideals of the YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior as well as practice and promote patient-centered care. This position will assist the pharmacist in all aspects of prescription preparation and delivery, including data processing, inventory management, prescription preparation, customer service, and department maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Prescription Processing & Preparation
    • 1.1 Accurately and efficiently locate and enter patient demographic information into pharmacy systems, perform necessary calculations to ensure proper dosage, directions, and quantity entered and selected.
  • 2. Customer Service and Communication
    • 2.1 Assist patients in a timely and courteous manner with register transactions, telephone calls, and with OTC product location
  • 3. Department Maintenance
    • 3.1 Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • 4. Other Responsibilities
    • 4.1 Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent required with additional broad training in fields such as medical office administration, pharmacy technician, social services or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of Associate's degree program or pharmacy technician training program.
EXPERIENCE
Experience with direct patient counseling is required. 3-5 years of retail pharmacy technician experience or specialty pharmacy technician experience preferred. Knowledge of drug products and insurance processing required.
LICENSURE
Registration with the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection as a pharmacy technician is required by completion of probationary period, and active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent certification is required on or within 1 year of date of hire. PTCB certifications in Medication Therapy management and Billing and Reimbursement expected within 18 months of hire.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Strong customer service skills and independent problem solving is a requirement. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask frequently and quickly. Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry medication patient assistance programs is preferred. Must be competent with Microsoft Office applications. Must have patient management expertise, strong time management, and organizational skills. Must possess flexibility, eagerness to learn, and be proactive in approaching the varying needs of our patient population.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Up to 6 to 8 weeks on the job training to learn all aspects of the position.
