Job description

POSITION INFORMATION
 

  • Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a .9 FTE Roaming Classified position 9 hours a day, four days a week for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • This position supports schools across the District on a daily basis to fill classified openings for Secretaries and/or Paraprofessionals.
  • Baker School District operates on a 4-day work week, M-Th.
  • Orientation Day: August 12, 2026.
     

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be accurate and able to multi-task efficiently, have a working knowledge of computers and office equipment, and be able to work independently as well as with students, employees and/or administrator in a positive, productive manner.
  • Completed two years of post-secondary education study (72 Q hrs or 48 S hrs) or Obtain an Associate's degree or
  • Have passed a fee based ($55) paraprofessional assessment. 

  
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Secretary: 


  1. Handle, type, file, and maintain confidential information (evaluations, etc.)
  2. Register students and maintain student records including immunization status, test scores, attendance records, accident reports, and insurance.
  3. Input and retrieve data in a timely fashion on the student services system.
  4. Complete a high volume of data entry work with speed and accuracy.  Input, format, edit, and retrieve data on a computer, calculator, and other technical equipment.  Format and complete extensive projects in a timely manner.  Draft, design, input, and assemble work from rough drafts through the finished product.
  5. Assist with budget preparation, order and distribute supplies and textbooks, and maintain purchase order information.
  6. Perform bookkeeping tasks which includes handling money, receipts and bank deposits.
  7. Dispense medication and perform minor first aid.
  8. Perform general office duties including but not limited to: greeting the public, telephone operations, typing and filing, scheduling appointments, and mail handling.
  9. Coordinate substitutes for certified and classified employees.
  10. Train and/or supervise office assistants, parent volunteers, and student assistants.
  11. Coordinate/reserve use of building facilities.
  12. Participate in in-service and/or professional development programs, funded by the district, when requested by administrator/supervisor.
  13. Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
  14. Comply with all applicable district, state, and federal policies and laws.
  15. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
     

Paraprofessional I:

  1. Work under the direct supervision of, and follow instructional plans provided by, certified teachers and/or licensed specialists in a group or one-on-one situation.
  2. Assist in creating and maintaining a positive environment that promotes optimum learning and the safety of students and staff in any educational setting.
  3. Utilize positive behavior management strategies as directed by the teacher and/or specialist to assure student safety, dignity, and responsibility for their own actions.
  4. Assist students in independent or group study, administer remedial drill work, and provide computer assistance, using a variety of strategies respecting individual learning styles.
  5. Assist teacher in testing and the evaluation of individual students.
  6. Supervise students in all areas of the school and/or other educational settings as directed.
  7. Request, gather, prepare and store materials for teachers and students.
  8. Perform clerical duties, maintain accurate records, and operate office machines as needed.
  9. Perform tasks assigned and trained by occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, and other providers in the delivery of related services.
  10. Participate in in-service and/or professional development programs, funded by the district, when requested by administrator/supervisor.
  11. Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
  12. Comply with all applicable district, state, and federal policies and laws.
  13. Perform other duties as determined or assigned by the supervising teacher and/or principal.
     

SALARY

  • 2026-2027 Salary Schedule: $20.93- $26.74 per hour. Placement on the salary schedule will be in accordance with the BSD 5J/OSEA collective bargaining agreement.
  • Baker School District 5J offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for health and retirement. In addition, the District pays the six percent (6%) employee PERS contribution required by ORS 238.200 and ORS 238A.330.
