Job description

Overview

This position is in an NIH-funded lab within the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology that investigates vaccine development for pathogenic bacteria. This position provides laboratory support for work in bacterial culture, molecular biology, protein purification and immunological assays. Extensive animal work (mice) is also expected.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine procedures in bacterial culture; molecular biology (e.g., DNA and RNA purification, PCR); clone, produce and analyze recombinant polypeptides; and immunological assays (e.g., ELISA); work with live animals (mice).
  • Maintain laboratory and lab supply inventory, and monitor equipment for maintenance.
  • Record experimental steps, data, and results.
  • Train others, including students and part-time lab assistants, in some of the lab procedures.
  • Abide by established lab standards for communication, documentation, organization, and teamwork.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

B.A., B.S., or M.S.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Proficiency in MS Excel.

One year (or more) of relevant laboratory experience is preferred.
