Overview
The Stanford Department of Pathology seeks an outstanding MD or MD/PhD candidate with expertise in clinical chemistry for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the University Medical Line. Board certification, board eligibility or equivalent training in clinical chemistry is required. The successful candidate will share clinical responsibilities and be expected to collaborate with other faculty in novel test development and advance academic excellence as well as outstanding patient care.

Qualifications and Expectations
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Individuals appointed as Assistant Professors will have completed their house staff training and, where appropriate, postdoctoral fellowship training. They must demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in the overall mix of contributions in clinical care, teaching and scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine appropriate to the programmatic need upon which the appointment will be based. They should have evidence that they can attain regional recognition for excellence in the overall mix of contributions. If these individuals have not had formal teaching experience, they should have demonstrated during their house staff and fellowship training a commitment to teaching, and they should have the potential to meet or exceed acceptable standards in teaching.
Initial term of appointment will generally be for four years.

Department and Research Environment
Successful candidates will join faculty in the Department of Pathology, which currently includes a Nobel laureate, multiple members of the National Academies, and many other investigators with national and international distinctions. In conjunction with its outstanding research program, the department is responsible annually for over 20 million laboratory tests and 100,000 anatomic pathology specimens, and educates outstanding graduate students, residents and fellows.

Compensation
The expected base pay range for this position is:
Assistant Professor: $269,000 – $296,000
This range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
