Job description

Job Summary
The Union Pathologists' Assistant (PA) II is responsible for assisting the pathologists in planning and organizing the daily schedules for the anatomic laboratory areas. Performs examinations of surgical specimens, participates in interpretation and diagnosis, and photographs/x-rays specimens. Coordinates inventory and storage of materials, assists with administrative duties, trains residents and students, and participates in research related duties. The Pathologist Assistant II works cooperatively to perform duties across all CNE operating units.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assists with planning and organizing daily work schedule in dissection rooms and other pathology areas.
Performs examinations of surgical specimens, and provides accurate and thorough gross descriptions with indications as to which portions are selected for microscopic examination.
Photographs and catalogues specimens.
Coordinates the inventory, storage and retrieval of all pathology photos, reports and x-rays.
Orients and trains residents, students and new employees.
Keeps abreast of developments in field of expertise, implementing new techniques as appropriate.
Preserves and protects patient and employee rights to confidentiality.
Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.
Requirements
Pathologists' Assistant Certification required PA (ASCP). Masters Degree preferred from an approved NAACLS accredited program or at least two years experience as Pathologists' Assistant, or equivalent combination of work and education experience.
A working knowledge or commitment to master the utility of certain computer software such as MS Excel, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat is strongly recommended. Good interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
