Pathologists Assistant 

Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Inova Fairfax Hospital to join the team. This is a fulltime Day Shift: Monday to Friday (8:00am-4:30pm).

Pathologists Assistant Job Responsibilities:

  • Processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification, obtaining pertinent patient clinical history and describing gross anatomic features. 

  • Dissects and prepares surgical specimens for processing and maintain grossing stations to ensure quality preparation of all specimens. 

  • Assists with and performs frozen sections, evaluate/submit fresh renal biopsy tissue and submit specimens in proper media for esoteric testing. 

  • Assists in the preparation and performance of postmortem examinations. 

  • Obtains clinical history (e.g. scans, X-rays, laboratory data, etc.) as indicated after consulting with the Pathologist.

  • Participates in professional growth opportunities to maintain competency and certification requirements, while performing administrative and teaching duties when needed.

  • Education: Must meet College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements which are as follows: Education/training equivalent includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include: 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • Experience: Per College of American Pathologists (CAP): three months of experience including; Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS or other organization approved by HHS
