Job description

Are you talented in turning complex engineering plans into a logic-driven roadmap that ensures the on-time delivery of the project?   We are seeking a Transit Systems Scheduler to join our team here at Modern Railway Systems. If you enjoy developing, maintaining, and analyzing resource-loaded construction schedules to manage large-scale infrastructure within the public transit sector, you could be the ideal candidate. This opportunity is a good fit for someone that can use Critical Path Method (CPM) to analyze, mitigate risks, update progress, and report to management on delays and productivity. 
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:


Schedule Management:
Building, updating, and maintaining detailed project schedules with established protocols to track progress using industry-standard software (e.g., Primavera P6/OPC, Microsoft Project).


Data Collection & Input:
Collect project status updates and data from field teams, project managers, and subcontractors, and input this information accurately into the master schedule. 

Resource Management:
Loading schedules with labor hours, equipment needs, and costs to ensure balanced distribution across the job site. Develop and manage company-wide schedule(s) with project information to maximize company resource utilization.

Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor progress against milestones, track performance, generate regular reports (e.g., weekly look-aheads, progress reports), and proactively anticipate schedule impacts and advise stakeholders as appropriate.

Coordination & Communication: Attend project meetings (in-person and/or virtual) and coordinate with various teams, including architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors, to ensure alignment on timelines and resource availability.

Risk Mitigation: Forecasting potential delays-such as weather, supply chain issues, or permitting mishaps-and developing recovery schedules to get the project back on track. Analyze risks and claim implications associated with project schedules and advise stakeholders as appropriate. 

Safety Compliance: Comply with safety protocols, follow safety expectations, and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on active construction sites.

Education:
 
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Construction Management or an Engineering discipline; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of construction project scheduling experience and proficiency with construction scheduling software (Primavera P6 or OPC preferred). 
  • Understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule principles, construction planning and best practices/techniques.
  • Ideal candidate has experience in the field or has an understanding of field construction operations; including how a project is executed, production rates and logical sequencing of work through all phases of the project.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong time-management and prioritization skills. 
  • This position requires development and maintenance of multiple active/ongoing project schedules as well as supporting bid-phase schedule development.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and contract documents. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to navigate changing conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License in good standing.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for Project and Corporate Meetings.
 
Preferences:
  • Experience with project schedule development and management in the Rail or Transit Systems industries.
  • Field-work experience in the Rail or Transit Systems industries.
  • Familiarity with bid schedule and the project pursuit process. Knowledge of HCSS estimating software a plus. 
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
