Job description

IP Docket Clerk - Hybrid
Location: Cleveland, OH or St. Louis, MO
Tucker Ellis LLP is seeking a detail-oriented IP Docket Clerk to join our Intellectual Property team. This role focuses on patent and trademark docketing and is critical to ensuring accurate tracking and management of deadlines. We are seeking candidates with at least one year of IP docketing experience (patent or trademark), and we are also open to training a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary who is interested in developing expertise in IP docketing.
Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update patent and trademark dockets, including monitoring deadlines for U.S. and international matters
  • Review and analyze incoming correspondence from the USPTO and foreign associates to calculate and docket critical deadlines
  • Ensure accuracy of docket entries and perform regular audits of docketing systems
  • Track upcoming deadlines and follow up with attorneys and staff to ensure timely action
  • Assist with coordination of patent and trademark filings by tracking due dates and required documentation
  • Maintain organized electronic records related to docketed matters
  • Communicate with attorneys, paralegals, and staff regarding deadlines and docket-related inquiries
  • Support the IP team with additional administrative tasks related to docketing as needed
Key Qualifications
  • Minimum of1 year of experience in IP docketing(patent or trademark preferred), OR
  • Experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary with a strong interest in learning IP docketing
  • Familiarity with USPTO rules and deadlines or a willingness to learn
  • Experience with docketing systems or database management is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment

Compensation Range
The compensation range for this position is $50,000 - $75,000 per year, depending on the experience and skill set.
