Job description

At Orijin, we believe exceptional hospitality begins with exceptional people. Located in the heart of Downtown Ann Arbor, Orijin is an artisan bakery dedicated to handcrafted breads, viennoiseries, pastries, desserts, and seasonal baked goods. Every item we produce reflects our commitment to craftsmanship, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality.
We're looking for a passionate, hospitality-driven Barista to help bring that experience to life every day. This role is about much more than making coffee. You'll craft espresso beverages with precision, welcome guests with warmth, showcase our artisan pastries, and create memorable experiences from the moment each guest walks through our doors. If you thrive in a fast-paced café environment and enjoy connecting with people through exceptional hospitality, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do:
  • Prepare espresso beverages, brewed coffee, tea, and specialty drinks with consistency and attention to detail.
  • Welcome guests, answer questions, and provide thoughtful recommendations on beverages and pastries.
  • Maintain exceptional beverage quality, cleanliness, and organization throughout every shift.
  • Stock ingredients, prepare drink components, and complete opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Merchandise pastry displays to showcase our artisan products beautifully.
  • Process guest orders accurately while delivering warm, genuine hospitality.
  • Support café cleanliness through bussing tables, washing dishes, and maintaining guest areas.
  • Work collaboratively with the bakery and service teams to ensure a seamless guest experience.

Why Work with Us?
We value our employees and offer a range of benefits to team members to support both professional growth and personal well-being. Full time benefits are not listed and include company sponsored medical insurance and paid time off.
  • Competitive pay plus weekly tips.
  • Paid Sick Time to take care of yourself and your family.
  • Employee dining discounts throughout The Pulpo Group.
  • Opportunities for growth within one of Michigan's most respected hospitality groups.
  • Work alongside talented hospitality professionals who are passionate about craftsmanship, learning, and creating memorable guest experiences.

What We're Looking For:
  • Passion for coffee, hospitality, and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Dependable, punctual, and eager to learn.
  • Comfortable working mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to reliably commute to our downtown Ann Arbor location, including planning for parking and arriving before scheduled shifts.

Requirements
  • Previous barista, café, restaurant, or hospitality experience required. Extensive barista experience and knowledge is preferred.
  • Basic cash handling and point-of-sale (POS) system experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately follow beverage recipes, food safety standards, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Availability to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
  • Ability to reliably commute to Orijin's downtown Ann Arbor location, including planning for parking and arriving on time for scheduled shifts.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk continuously for up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 30 pounds, including milk crates, ice, coffee supplies, and other café products.
  • Frequently bend, reach, squat, twist, and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements while preparing beverages and stocking products.
  • Safely operate espresso equipment, grinders, blenders, commercial dishwashing equipment, and other café equipment.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to hot liquids, steam, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures.
  • Occasionally climb a step stool or short ladder to stock and retrieve products from storage.
