DESCRIPTION

The coordinator of Sacred Music is responsible for enabling parishioners to encounter Jesus Christ through music within the liturgical celebrations and worship experiences of the parish. The coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the parish music programs. The coordinator must have strong leadership skills necessary to lead choirs and instrumentalists. The position reports to the pastor and operates under general supervision with some latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.


MINISTERIAL CHARACTER

The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of Christ the King Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christโ€™s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at Christ the King Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

ยท Support the annual planning for liturgical seasons, sacramental celebrations, and special liturgies in collaboration with the parish staff and liturgy committee.

ยท Direct the parish musicians, choirs and cantors to ensure all liturgies are scheduled, well planned and engaging.

ยท Provide music training and formation for music ministers and musicians.

ยท Collaborate with the pastor and staff in recruiting volunteers and strive to involve newcomers.

ยท Attend parish staff meetings and liturgy committee meetings.

ยท When needed, direct the creation of worship aids.

ยท Maintain equipment and resources for the music ministry such as musical instruments, sound equipment, copyrighted material, music library, etc.

ยท Stay informed of current developments in liturgy and in music.

ยท In collaboration with the pastor and parish business administrator, prepare and coordinate the music ministry budget.

ยท Ensure that all music ministry members are in compliance with the diocesan Ethics and Integrity in Ministry requirements.


Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ยท Previous experience participating in parish music ministry.

ยท Experience leading congregation in song, choral and instrumentalist conducting.

ยท Demonstrate ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish leaders, and volunteers.

ยท Practicing Catholic in good standing committed to the mission and teachings of the Church.

ยท Must be in compliance with the diocesan Ethics and Integrity in Ministry requirements.

ยท Knowledgeable and comfortable with Church liturgical music in all forms and styles.

ยท Excellent skills in leadership and management with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.

ยท Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

ยท Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

ยท Perform a comprehensive annual evaluation of the music program.


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ยท Degree in Music or related field, or equivalent experience.

ยท Masterโ€™s Degree in Liturgy, Sacred Music, Pastoral Studies or equivalent are a plus.

ยท Previous experience leading parish music ministry.

ยท Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the liturgy of the Catholic Church and the place of the various musical elements used with the liturgy.

ยท Knowledge of group vocal techniques for adults and children as well as choral conducting.

ยท Understanding of acoustics as they pertain to the space in which the parish worships.

ยท Ability to work effectively with children and adults.

ยท Computer literate with ability to work with online providers of music and liturgy.

ยท Ability to articulate ideas clearly, concisely, professionally, and respectfully; both orally and in writing.

ยท An active listener with the ability to work collaboratively, foster teamwork and address conflict as it arises.
