Position Summary
At PROENERGY, we emphasize a ONE-TEAM approach where our Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start-Up, Document Controls, and Operations teams work seamlessly for our clients as a solutions provider for the power industry. We are seeking a Substation Designer reporting directly to the Director of Design and Technology as we continue to build our in-house EPC engineering and design team. This designer will focus on substation physical layout but also contributing to our department in creating guidelines and procedures. Code sets including NESC, IEEE, CSA, etc will all need constant review as our standards and codes change. You will need to work collaboratively with our integrated EPC team along with our clients to execute and provide world class, quality focused deliverables for our construction team. Your ability to adapt and be flexible will be invaluable as you coordinate multiple jobs, develop guidelines and procedures, and provide design oversight to our subsidiaries. As we lead the transition from reliance on third party engineers to building and managing a fully functional in-house engineering team your discipline expertise and technical knowledge will greatly impact the business planning to add engineering quality standards and developing our own deliverables.

Position Responsibilities
  • Design the physical layout of our substations including radial collector bus arrangements
  • Plan and develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations.
  • Understand and develop the capability of quality checking in the 3D models for interferences and constructability optimizations.
  • Resolve comments on checked drawings; understand and implement the comments made.
  • Complete as-builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs and red-marked drawings from construction to develop "Conformed to Construction Records" as required.
  • Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.
  • Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure design standardization and templating of our PowerFLX work.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices and find practical applications.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Check design for consistency, safety, operability, quality and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
  • Mid-Level understanding of physical substation layouts with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplined project team including structural and electrical engineers.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in drafting technology, design or related fields or High School Diploma with Relevant coursework/experience
  • Three (3) years of experience in related work experience
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic understanding of design software such as: PLSCAD, E3D, Plant 3D, Smartplant 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Participates in team environment effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to the success of the team.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with set expectations.

  • Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, Designers and constructability personnel in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish our goals.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
  • US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
