Responsible for the smooth and efficient delivery of lunch at a designated congregate meal location ensuring lunch is in a pleasant environment for adults 60+ or other eligible participants/guests. Regular and punctual attendance required. This position is responsible for the daily meal program including meal service, participant check-in, meal reservation coordination, and donation collection. Additionally, the position will collect participant information to determine eligibility, oversee congregate site volunteers, and provide direction of their daily tasks.
FOOD SERVICE
  • Follow food safety standards as set forth by the Kansas Department of Agriculture; including but not limited to: equipment inspection for cleanliness and functional operation, proper food handling, temperature monitoring, and food service by all kitchen workers.
  • Meal service at established time and portions as instructed by program guidelines.
  • Congregate site coordination including dining and kitchen area clean-up, securing of kitchen and equipment to established standards.

PROGRAM SUPPORT
  • Oversee service operations at the congregate meal site in accordance with established guidelines for a safe and friendly atmosphere.
  • Conduct and/or distribute assessments to required congregate participants in accordance with Central Plains Area Agency on Aging (CPAA) and Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) procedures.
  • Provide oversight and documentation of activities of volunteers engaged in the meal program.
  • Accurate documentation of meals served and next day reservations for each participant.
  • Encourage participants to donate toward the program, secure, and deliver donations to CPAAA.
  • Communicate as needed to the Nutrition Coordinator regarding concerns or local issues related to the meals program.
  • Announce and/or post program announcements and memos to ensure accurate communication of service information to the public.
  • Attend monthly nutrition site manager meetings (virtual).

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
  • Accurate completion of all required documentation, reports, and orders by required deadlines.
  • Assist with delivery and pick-up of administrative documentation from congregate sites in Butler, Harvey and Sedgwick Counties.
  • Data entry of assessments, meal reservations, and participant updates as needed.
  • Communication by phone or email with customers and professionals inquiring about the nutrition program.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. One (1) year experience working in food service with knowledge of food safety, food distribution to clients, and maintaining health and sanitation standards. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid U.S. driver's license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of food services experience with a thorough knowledge of food safety, preparation, operation of food service equipment, and maintaining health and sanitation standards. Two (2) years of experience working with older adults or people with disabilities. Associate degree in food service, hospitality, healthcare, social services, or other related field. Food Handlers Certificate or nutrition coach certification. Bilingual in English and a language other than English.
