Job description

POSITION TITLE: AVA Science Teacher
PROGRAM: ASPIRA Virtual Academic (AVA) Program
GRADES: 1-8ย 
STATUS:ย  Part-Time, Up to 25 hours per week


Position Description:

ASPIRA Delaware is seeking a highly qualified, motivated educator to support students enrolled in the AVA Program across K-12 grade levels. This individual will provide instruction in science to students learning in a virtual environment.

The ideal candidate is student-centered, highly organized, and able to differentiate instruction across a wide range of developmental levels. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as this role involves close collaboration with students, families, and staff. The educator must be comfortable working independently while also functioning as part of a collaborative instructional team that shares responsibilities for program implementation, coverage, and parent communication.

Candidates should be proficient with educational technology platforms such as Zoom, Schoology, and Google Drive. Familiarity with STEMScopes and other science platforms is a plus.

This is primarily a work-from-home position, with expectations to report to the school building in Newark, DE for designated in-person events, professional development, state testing, and other school-related activities (approximately 10-12 days per year).

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the established curriculum to meet academic standards across assigned K-12 grade levels.

  • Deliver daily synchronous instruction with appropriate differentiation to meet diverse student needs.

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards.

  • Implement STEMScopes curriculum and other adopted instructional programs as required.

  • Support student academic growth and hold high expectations for achievement across grade levels.

  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction.

  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.

  • Create and maintain a positive, structured, and engaging virtual learning environment.

  • Reflect on instructional practices and actively seek professional growth through feedback and collaboration.

  • Participate in curriculum planning, grade-level collaboration, and school-wide initiatives.

  • Maintain regular and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English.ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.ย 

  • Valid State of Delaware Teaching License in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, or appropriate K-12 content area (or eligibility to obtain one).ย 

  • Dual certification and/or Special Education certification is highly preferred.ย 

  • Successful completion of Praxis I and Praxis II exams, as required by the Delaware Department of Education (unless holding an active Delaware teaching license).ย 

  • Meets Highly Qualified status in accordance with applicable state and federal guidelines.ย 

  • Strong instructional skills with the ability to differentiate instruction across diverse grade levels (K-12).ย 

  • Effective classroom management skills in both virtual and in-person learning environments.ย 

  • Knowledge of Delaware state standards and/or Common Core State Standards.ย 

  • Ability to reflect on instructional practice, accept feedback, and continuously improve teaching performance.ย 

  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.ย
