Job Summary:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for the structural design of steel and concrete structures related to marine terminals, industrial, bulk material handling, process, petrochemical, refinery and oil & gas facilities. This includes marine docks, foundations, retaining walls, structural steel platforms, bents and towers, steel buildings, as well as modification to existing structures and deep/shallow foundation systems. This involves computer modeling, using software such as RISA and/or SACS, of structures from conceptual engineering through construction. This also includes coordinating with and directing Designers and Drafters of structural and other disciplines to accomplish project tasks.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Overall responsibility for project scope and responsible for ensuring deliverables meet technical and contractual requirements;
• Prepare, monitor and review the designs developed by other engineers working on project during different stages of the design, provide guidance and direction and may assign work and tasks to civil engineers based on engineer's abilities, project scope and schedule;
• Review designs against client provided specifications as well as all applicable local and industry codes and standards;
• Present design to client;
• May act as final approver of the documents and drawings for issuance and seal of documents prior to issuance for construction;
• Develop cost time resource including determining engineering and drafting requirements based on project scope and schedule;
• Prepare, review and/or approve project design basis;
• Initiate, manage or lead project meetings/communications with clients;
• Attend project discussions/internal meetings with other disciplines;
• May be responsible for project permitting to include assisting with permit applications and managing/leading project meetings with certifying agencies;
• Lead dock inspection and assessments;
• Analyze dock inspection results, determine recommendations, and create report;
• Assist with review of construction documents and construction submittals;
• Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures and may develop standards and guidelines;
• Serves as the technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area;
• Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
Basic or Minimum Qualifications
• Requires BS degree in Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering;
• For candidates with engineering degrees attained outside the U.S., the candidate must have attained an E.I.T. designation from a U.S. based state licensing board;
• Requires ten (10) or more years' experience in engineering design related to job duties and responsibilities;
• Requires familiarity with total project systems to include mechanical, structural, civil and electrical components to allow considerations of those aspects into a project or design area;
• Requires previous experience with RISA, Staad, and/or SACS;
• Requires strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Requires availability and ability to travel to client sites and work overtime as needed based on project;
• Requires the availability and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
• Requires the ability to interact with staff at all levels;
• P.E. license required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supervising and/or directing the work of drafters and other engineering support staff preferred;
• Experience with OPTIMOOR software.
Working Conditions:
• Work is conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) and requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;
• Interaction with other team members as well as supervisor and client personnel;
• May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis to obtaining project field data or attend project meetings;
• Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant, facility or terminal environment which may include working in plant or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
• Field duties require outdoor work in a plant or construction atmosphere;
• Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
• May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.

• Must be able to lift and carry twenty (20) pounds;
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;
• Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
• Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
