Job description

Field Estimator

Part-Time | Flexible Schedule | Greater Boston

Help Shape Projects Before Construction Begins

Beantown Builders is a growing design-build and preconstruction company serving Greater Boston. We help homeowners, real estate investors, multifamily owners, developers, and select commercial property owners make informed decisions before construction begins.

Our work includes residential additions, ADUs, whole-home renovations, multifamily repositioning, condominium conversions, tenant improvements, adaptive reuse projects, and light commercial renovations.

We're seeking an experienced Field Estimator to become an important part of our preconstruction team. This is more than a traditional estimating position. You'll serve as our field representative—meeting clients on-site, evaluating existing conditions, documenting project information, and preparing preliminary budgets that help clients confidently move into design and construction.

This position is ideal for an experienced construction professional looking for flexible work while remaining engaged in challenging and rewarding projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site evaluations throughout Greater Boston
  • Meet professionally with property owners, developers, and client representatives
  • Take accurate field measurements using laser measuring equipment
  • Photograph and document existing conditions
  • Identify potential construction challenges, code considerations, and site constraints
  • Develop preliminary scopes of work
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed estimates using our estimating software
  • Upload project documentation into our project management system
  • Coordinate with our leadership, design, and preconstruction teams
  • Experience estimating, managing, or supervising residential, multifamily, or light commercial construction projects
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and materials
  • Ability to read architectural drawings and construction documents preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently and managing your schedule
  • Proficient with basic computer software and willing to learn new systems
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Ideal Background

We're especially interested in candidates with experience as:

  • Field Estimator
  • Project Manager
  • Assistant Project Manager
  • Superintendent
  • Residential or Commercial Estimator
  • Construction Manager
  • Architectural Designer or Technician
  • Experienced Carpenter with estimating experience
  • Owner's Representative
  • Civil or Structural Engineering Technician

Compensation

This position is compensated on a per-assignment basis rather than by the hour. The hourly range shown is an estimated equivalent for recruiting purposes. Most site visits earn between $150 and $350 depending on project complexity and scope

  • Per completed site visit
  • Fuel stipend

Why Join Beantown Builders?

Our company is built on the belief that successful construction starts with thoughtful planning—not guesswork.

You'll work on a diverse mix of residential, multifamily, and light commercial projects while helping clients make informed investment decisions before construction begins. As our company grows, this role has the opportunity to evolve into a broader preconstruction leadership position for the right individual.

If you're an experienced construction professional who enjoys solving problems, evaluating projects, and helping clients move from ideas to execution, we'd like to hear from you.
