The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the **Numu (Northern Paiute)**, **Newe (Western Shoshone)**, and **Washeshu (Washoe)**. These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival. Each group’s name means **“The People”** in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.

As a Full Time Seasonal Maintenance I at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will engage in a diverse array of tasks essential for the upkeep and improvement of our buildings, residences, and facilities. Your skills in carpentry, mechanics, and painting will be put to good use as you perform carpentry assignments, including concrete work and fencing, while also maintaining drainage structures, bridges, and culverts. Operating a range of equipment from light trucks to heavy machinery, you will tackle landscape construction, manage sprinkler systems, and conduct grounds maintenance.

You will assist with mechanical upkeep of pumps and valves, as well as support the repair of streets and sewer systems. Additionally, basic framing, flooring, and installation of cabinets and doors will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring you play a vital role in maintaining our community's infrastructure. To excel as a Full Time Seasonal Maintenance I at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, candidates must possess a combination of technical skills and practical experience. A high school diploma or GED certificate is required at the time of hire, along with a valid Nevada Driver’s license to qualify for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program. Successful applicants should be at least 21 years old and demonstrate a strong ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, lifting, and working in various environmental conditions.

Effective communication skills in English—both verbal and written—are essential for collaborating with team members and reporting on project status. Candidates should also have a minimum of four years of hands-on experience in maintenance and construction work or an equivalent combination of education and experience, enabling them to navigate the diverse challenges of this role proficiently.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• A high school diploma or GED certificate at time of hire.
• age twenty-one (21) at time of hire.
• eligibility for the RSIC Vehicle Insurance Program which includes a valid Nevada Driver’s license.
• ability to perform consistent and extended physical work including bending, stooping, lifting, pulling and other activities in a variety of environmental conditions.
• ability to successfully communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
• at least four (4) years of prior experience performing basic maintenance and construction work or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
