ABOUT
Safe and timely operation of TJC-owned, operate, or leased multi-passenger vehicles or other vehicles that transport students, faculty, staff, and materials between authorized locations.
The Transportation Driver is a pooled position and shifts are scheduled as-needed.. Hours and schedules may vary depending on the event. This position is part-time and can work up to 18 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities
Provide seasonal driving services safely and professionally, using vans and other vehicles, for campus student groups and organizations, including the Apache Band, Apache Belles, and student athletes, along with coaches, faculty, and staff, to assigned locations, generally hosting College-related events
Secondary Responsibilities
• Maintains a written log and records of ridership per trip, including mileage and gasoline.
• Enforces department regulations and adheres to all vehicle regulations of the State of Texas during the operation of their assigned vehicle.
• Cleans vehicles at the end of shifts.
• Performs minor maintenance and safety checks on vehicles.
• Conducts safety pre-trip checks on assigned vehicles and submits documentation of said checks.
• Reports any potentially hazardous vehicle maintenance or safety issues immediately to a supervisor.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned or directed.

• Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations, safety procedures, vehicle mechanics, route/areas, and passenger management.
• Ability to operate several types of buses and vans to the extent of maneuvering safely through congested traffic conditions, as well as adverse weather and road conditions.

• Stress tolerance, situational awareness, time management, and adaptability.
• Competent in safety orientation, regulatory compliance, and technology.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual Contributor
Physical Demands: Sitting for prolonged periods of time, standing, ability to lift 10-20 lbs. to load/unload or secure cargo
Work Environment: Frequent exposure to items such as loud noise, uncomfortable temperatures, physical exertion associated with driving resulting in drowsiness, street, etc.

If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
WHO YOU ARE
Required Education
High school graduate or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Required Credentials/Licensures
• Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
• Must pass a driver's license history check and criminal background check.
• Be able to obtain a State of Texas Commercial Driver's License and/or Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement) if requested.
Additional Job-Specific Requirements
• Ability to handle all road hazards without compromising the safety of the passengers.
• Basic math and writing skills are required to complete driving logs and calculate mileage.
• Ability to communicate efficiently with passengers, which may include verbal, oral, and hearing.
• Ability to get on and off buses with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Vision sufficient to read printed materials.
• Excellent manual dexterity to handle dashboard controls.
• Must be mobile across campus, which may include climbing stairs.
