About the team

For this part time Athletic Director position, you'll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. 95% of The Class of 2025 received acceptances into 52 unique colleges and universities and earned nearly $4.3M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.

What you'll do

As the Athletic Director, you'll develop and execute a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's mission and values, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student-athletes. You'll implement strategies that support student behavior and sportsmanship, promote social-emotional growth through athletics, and build a strong sense of belonging, teamwork, and respect across all teams and the broader school community.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage all logistics related to practices, games, and tournaments, including transportation and facility usage.
  • Collaborate with school administration, teachers, and parents to ensure that student-athletes maintain academic success while participating in sports.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures related to athletic eligibility, behavior, and safety.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the broader community to enhance support for the athletic program.
  • Oversee budgetary considerations for the athletic department and make fiscally responsible decisions.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among student-athletes, coaches, and spectators.

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related roles.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire coaches and student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing high school athletics.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the athletic program.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required by the athletic schedule.
Pay and benefits

We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. This is a part-time position that is not eligible for benefits.
