Job description

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Midwest Region, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Empire, Michigan.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work a maximum of 50 weeks per year, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.Qualifications:All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/23/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. If you do not provide evidence that you possess the following selective factor(s), you will be rated not qualified.
Handling Money: Experience collecting and accounting for monies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this GS-0503-6 position. Examples of specialized experience include leading 3 or more full-time employees on a regular and recurring basis in performing fee collection, accounting, or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; and resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process.

EDUCATION: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-05 for most positions covered by this standard, however, graduate education MAY be credited in those few rare instances where the graduate education is DIRECTLY related to the work of the position. Successful completion of at least one full year of GRADUATE-level education (18 semester hours or equivalent) that DIRECTLY relates to the position being filled, such as Accounting, Business, or Finance may be used to qualify. To use education to qualify, you are required to upload a copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial) at the time of application, or you will be found "not qualified."

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE. Successful completion of a combination of GRADUATE level education and specialized experience as described above. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants. Work Environment: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.Education:You must submit a copy of your transcript(s) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include your name, school name, grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, and date the degree was conferred, if applicable. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. Non-submission may result in being rated not qualified for the position.
