Job description

Kimley-Horn's Saint Paul, Minnesota (MN) office is seeking a Bridge Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Bridge Structures team. Kimley-Horn is looking for a motivated individual to contribute primarily to bridge design, while also having the opportunity to support in-service bridge inspections, load rating analyses, and various structural evaluations across Minnesota. Inspection and evaluation experience—or an interest in developing these skills—is considered a beneficial perk, not a requirement. Candidates who bring strengths in design and an openness to expanding into inspection will be well positioned for expanded responsibility and long term growth.

  • Serve in a technical role on bridge design projects
  • Perform structural analysis, design, and planning on bridges and other transportation structures
  • Develop full sets of structural drawings and technical specifications without guidance
  • Projects could include bridge design, box culvert, and retaining wall design
  • Train and mentor Engineers-In-Training (EITs) in structural engineering
  • Perform structural design calculations, plan production activities, and prepare project document submittal packages, while maintaining a Quality Control program for the entire project
  • Lead and provide support for construction phase efforts on building projects in structural engineering
  • Support and participate in meetings and presentations with clients, contractors, and design team members
  • Contribute to identifying project opportunities through networking with new and existing clients
  • Conduct routine bridge safety inspections and prepare inspection documentation.
  • Perform bridge load ratings using established methodologies and tools.
  • Complete structural evaluations, including condition assessments and rehabilitation recommendations.

  • 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Experience with AASHTOWare BrR for bridge load rating analyses
  • Completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In Service Bridges training, or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD and OpenBridge with some ability to produce drawings and details, when needed
  • Knowledge and experience in structural analysis and design software, such as STAAD, RAM, E-Tabs, MathCAD, TEDDS, ADAPT PT, and other structural related design software
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-discipline to meet client deadlines
  • Detail-oriented team player with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
  • Ability to multi-task and work on a variety of projects concurrently
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and technical skills with a continuous mindset on personal and staff development
  • Positive, can-do attitude and a strong work ethic

Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
