Position Highlights
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist III to support advanced laboratory research with minimal supervision. The purpose of the position is to perform high-resolution transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac function assessments in mouse models by acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting echocardiographic imaging data and ensuring compliance with animal care and research protocols.

Duties & Responsibilities
Perform Mouse Echocardiography and Data Acquisition:
  • Design and conduct transthoracic echocardiographic imaging protocols for mouse models using Vevo ultrasound systems.
  • Acquire and troubleshoot 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and strain imaging data across varied experimental conditions.
  • Monitor animal condition during imaging and determine when procedures require modification to maintain protocol compliance.
  • Maintain imaging records and experimental documentation to support reproducibility and audit readiness.

Image Analysis:
  • Analyze complex echocardiographic imaging data to characterize cardiac structure and function.
  • Develop and apply quality control criteria for imaging datasets.

Data Interpretation:
  • Interpret imaging results in the context of current literature to inform investigators of study significance.
  • Generate reports and summaries that communicate findings to investigators.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and cardiac anatomy.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound imaging principles and echocardiographic techniques.
  • Skill in performing and analyzing small animal echocardiography.
  • Ability to interpret cardiac functional and structural measurements.
  • Proficiency with image analysis software and data management tools.
  • Ability to maintain accurate research records and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and laboratory safety procedures.
