WORKING CONDITIONS The incumbent in this position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold.

The incumbent may exposed to fumes, loud noises, dust and air contaminants. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision, with or without correction, when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment.

The need to transport equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Parts/Stores Specialist I is the entry-level class of this series. Incumbents order, purchase, and acquire parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for the fleet repair shop and stores utilizing a considerable variety of supply items and a specialized equipment maintenance computer program.

This class is alternately staffed with Parts/Stores Specialist II. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency, which meet the qualifications of the higher class. Parts/Stores Specialist II is the experienced level class in this series.

Incumbents exercise discretion within established guidelines and help coordinate the order, purchase, and acquiring of parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for the fleet repair shop and stores. Incumbents work closely with the department to establish vendor listings, purchase orders, and insurance requirements of vendors. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives general supervision from the Public Works Supervisor.

May receive guidance from the Senior Parts/Stores Specialist. The posted salary range spans the Parts/Stores Specialist I/II series. Please refer to the specific job descriptions for the individual salary ranges, examples of duties, and knowledge and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications Parts/Stores Specialist I Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade is required. One (1) year full time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse performing vehicle parts servicing, including experience ordering, stocking, receiving and inventorying parts and related equipment. Parts/Stores Specialist II Education equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible full time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse performing vehicle parts servicing, including experience ordering, stocking, receiving and inventorying parts and related equipment.
