What is a parts inventory manager?

Parts Inventory Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the storage, tracking, and control of parts and supplies within a business, typically in industries like automotive, manufacturing, or machinery. They ensure that the right parts are available when needed, maintain accurate inventory records, and optimize stock levels to prevent shortages or excess. Their role often includes managing orders, coordinating with suppliers, and utilizing inventory management software to streamline operations.

What are some common challenges parts inventory managers face and how can they be addressed?

Parts Inventory Managers often encounter challenges such as maintaining optimal stock levels to prevent both shortages and overstock, managing outdated or obsolete inventory, and ensuring accurate tracking across multiple locations. Addressing these issues typically involves implementing robust inventory management software, establishing regular cycle counts, and fostering clear communication with procurement and maintenance teams. Staying proactive with demand forecasting and supplier relationships also helps minimize disruptions and keeps operations running smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a parts inventory manager?

To thrive as a Parts Inventory Manager, you need expertise in inventory control, supply chain management, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Familiarity with inventory management software (such as SAP or Oracle), ERP systems, and barcode scanning tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational and communication skills help you excel in this role. These competencies ensure accurate stock levels, efficient operations, and minimized downtime, which are crucial for business profitability and customer satisfaction.

Parts Manager
HVAC / Industrial Distribution
Louisville, KY | Full-Time | Exempt
Build it. Scale it. Own it.
We're looking for a high-impact Parts Manager to take ownership of a multi-location parts business with significant untapped growth.
This is not a "keep things running" role-this is a build, optimize, and scale opportunity for someone who thinks like an owner and leads from the front.
You'll operate as the business leader for parts-driving performance across sales, operations, inventory, and customer experience-while partnering across service and equipment teams to create a seamless, best-in-class operation.
What You'll Own
Leadership & Culture
  • Lead inside sales, outside sales, and warehouse teams across multiple locations
  • Build a high-accountability, performance-driven culture
  • Coach, develop, and elevate talent at every level

Growth & Market Impact
  • Identify and execute growth opportunities across pricing, product mix, and customer segments
  • Actively engage the market-customers, vendors, and team-to drive revenue
  • Bring a proactive, entrepreneurial approach to expanding the business

Operations & Inventory Excellence
  • Own inventory performance: turns, accuracy, availability, and obsolescence
  • Optimize stocking strategy and enforce disciplined processes
  • Improve speed, accuracy, and efficiency across locations

Business Ownership
  • Own revenue, margins, expenses, and inventory investment
  • Track and manage KPIs with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Make data-driven decisions that drive profitability and growth

Customer Experience
  • Deliver fast, accurate, and reliable parts support
  • Build strong customer relationships and trust
  • Champion a people-first, customer-first culture

What We're Looking For
  • 5-10+ years in parts, distribution, or supply chain leadership
  • Experience in HVAC, mechanical, or industrial distribution strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of driving growth, improving operations, and leading teams
  • Strong business acumen (pricing, margins, inventory, KPIs)
  • Hands-on, player-coach mentality-you lead from the floor, not just the office
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and bias for action

What Success Looks Like
  • Consistent sales and margin growth
  • A high-performing, accountable, and engaged team
  • Best-in-class customer experience across all locations
  • A parts operation that runs like a business-not just a support function

Why This Role
  • High visibility with real influence on the business
  • Opportunity to build and scale something meaningful
  • Autonomy to lead-not just manage
  • Performance-driven culture that rewards results
  • Competitive compensation + incentives tied to impact

Ready to Build Something?
If you're a driven leader who knows parts, understands distribution, and wants to own, grow, and scale a business-we should talk.
Employment practices will not be influenced or affected by an applicant's or employee's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status or any other legally protected status. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship.
Salary ranges listed are dependent upon a candidate's qualifications, experience, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the specific role and location.
