About the Position

Responsible for providing strategic consulting with functional management and HR colleagues to deliver timely and value-added HR services and solutions that reflect the business objectives of the Company. This includes the development and delivery of HR programs and solutions, placing considerable focus on talent management, organizational effectiveness, leadership performance, and engagement. This position functions very independently, regularly exercising critical thinking and independent decision making, and acts as a primary customer relationship manager for specified business groups within the Company, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives, and regulations.

Day in the Life

  • Provides mentoring and HR strategy consultation with other members of the HR team. Acts as a key member of the HR leadership team and the business management team for the assigned business group(s), driving implementation of high-quality HR strategies and people-related business operations solutions.
  • Develops a keen understanding of all business centers and functions, the required competencies, and current department challenges of the assigned business group(s). Partners with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity, engagement, and employee retention.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics to develop and recommend HR solutions, programs, and policies for assigned client group(s). Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation, reducing legal risk and ensuring compliance. Drives Company performance management program, per agreed-upon policies and processes.             
  • Consults with management and HR colleagues on the development and deployment of appropriate recognition and rewards programs.
  • Develops and implements programs that promote positive employee relations. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, in partnership with functional management. When needed, conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Proactively trains, coaches and guides managers regarding employee relations and disciplinary actions, with a goal to ensure appropriate conversations are held with employees.                        
  • Supports all pre & post-employment processes.
  • Provides high-quality hiring, coaching, and mentoring to staff, managers, and other employees as needed and facilitates training on a variety of topics, including harassment prevention, new manager training, employee handbook, Company policies, etc. Accurately and confidentially maintains HRIS system records and other sensitive employee data.             
  • Creates and maintains strong, positive working relationships with internal management and employees, external vendor partnerships and community contacts.
  • Consistently make decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.             
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high-quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public. 
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, human resources, or a related field. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), HCI Professional in HR (PHR) or Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) credential preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of HR generalist or consulting experience, preferably in construction or related business. Minimum 5 years of experience of resolving complex employee relations issues and directly managing people.
  • Broad knowledge in human resource management across all HR disciplines, including staffing, talent management, leader development, compensation, organizational effectiveness, change management, engagement, employee relations, diversity, performance management and training.
  • In-depth knowledge of US employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, Affirmative Action Planning and other federal and state employment laws and related processes. Experience using technical tools such as HRIS and applicant tracking systems. Prominent level of integrity and leadership in employee engagement.             
  • Strong business acumen, customer service skills and experience partnering with senior leaders in a high growth, process-oriented business setting. Strong skills in analyzing financial and/or work measurement reports and developing sound recommendations for management decision-making.
  • Highly effective communicator and collaborator, with the ability to clearly and concisely articulate ideas and concepts and the ability to build strong relationships at all levels and cross functionally.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including high quality documentation and report preparation. Superior listening, presentation, interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management and persuasion skills, and the ability to influence employees at all levels, including senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex problems with strategic thinking skills and detail orientation, and to drive appropriate solutions with self-initiative. Strong continuous improvement and process orientation.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to effectively present benefit information to employee groups and respond to questions from internal customers and external parties such as regulatory authorities.

Travel

  • Temporary relocation for the duration of the project in Fargo, ND is required, if your home base is outside of a reasonable daily commute. Temporary relocation benefits will be discussed with qualified candidates.
