Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Cresco Labs is seeking a Senior Manager, External Reporting, to join our corporate finance team in Chicago, IL. The Senior Manager, External Reporting, will report to the Director of External Reporting & Consolidations and lead a team of external reporting analysts. This role will own the month-end close for stock-based compensation (SBC) and other equity transactions, lead the full implementation of the company's equity accounting system, and own the monthly, quarterly, and annual filings as required under Canadian Securities Regulations and the SEC. Our ideal candidate must be a self-starter who is highly organized with great attention to detail and thrives in a fast-paced environment

CORE JOB DUTIES 

SEC Reporting  

  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual Canadian Securities Regulations and SEC filings 
  • Oversee the preparation of the earnings per share (EPS) calculations, including diluted share counts and weighted-average share activity  
  • Coordinate with auditors on audit requests 
  • Perform technical accounting research and prepare memos on complex equity and SBC transactions under U.S. GAAP 
  • Manage XBRL tagging 
  • Participate in special projects and ad-hoc requests as assigned 

Stock-Based Compensation - Month-End Close 

  • Own the full monthly close process for stock-based compensation, including calculation, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation 
  • Maintain and reconcile the SBC sub-ledger to the general ledger on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy and completeness 
  • Track and account for all equity award activity including grants, vesting, forfeitures, expirations, and modifications 
  • Calculate and record expense for all equity award types including stock options and RSUs using Certent 
  • Coordinate with VP of Compensation & Workforce Strategy and payroll on new hire, termination, and modification events impacting equity awards 
  • Maintain effective internal controls over the equity close process and support SOX compliance documentation 

Equity Accounting System Implementation 

  • Lead the full implementation Certent, the company's equity accounting system  
  • Oversee data migration of historical equity grant data, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and integrity of all records transferred to the new system 
  • Configure system award types, vesting schedules, valuation inputs, and accounting treatment to align with company policy and U.S. GAAP 
  • Document the business processes, system workflows, and internal control procedures for Certent 
  • Design and validate system-generated accounting outputs, ensuring accurate integration with the general ledger and financial reporting systems 
  • Build and test automated reconciliations between the equity platform, payroll, and the general ledger 
  • Serve as the primary system administrator and subject matter expert post-implementation, managing ongoing configuration and updates 

People Management 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of external reporting analysts 
  • Set clear expectations for each team member around their individual roles and responsibilities 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professional judgment, and continuous improvement  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS  

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance 
  • 7+ years of accounting experience (public accounting and/or external reporting at a publicly traded company) 
  • CPA required 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and consistent follow-through on assigned tasks 
  • Experience with equity system implementation 
  • Experience with financial and reporting systems preferred(e.g., Certent, Intacct, BPC, Workiva) 
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations is required 
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office required 
  • Ability to thrive within a post-start up, fast-paced, public company environment 
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and change; able to act as a change agent 
  • Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner
