Job Summary: 
The Part-Time Special Education Teacher is responsible for curriculum and lesson planning and delivery as well as assessing students and writing effective IEP's. Participation in interdisciplinary team meetings, PPT's, and parent meetings is an essential component of this position. The special education teacher must be skilled in providing on-going training and supervision to paraeducators and general educators in order to implement IEP's with fidelity.
General Statement of Duties:


  1. Uphold administrative regulations, school rules, policies as determined by the state and local boards of education and negotiated agreements.
  2. To diagnose, evaluate, and develop an educational plan for students assigned to the learning disability class.
  3. To implement Individual Education Programs for students in the class.
  4. To interpret needs of students in the program to other school staff and parents.
  5. To evaluate student progress and report to other school staff and parents.
  6. To maintain and update cumulative and confidential files of students in the program.
  7. To maintain a daily and weekly schedule of class plans and activities.
  8. To function as a member of the Planning and Placement Team in: diagnosing, evaluating, and recommending educational programming for referred pupils.
  9. Reviewing pupils already assigned to the special education class.
  10. To provide consultation to classroom teachers in working with children with disabilities.
  11. To provide progress reports and other information regarding their programs to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.
  12. To assist in development of program needs analysis, objectives, activities and evaluation for the special education program.
  13. To participate in department meetings and activities.
  14. To participate in community and professional activities relating to special education.
  15. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

Qualifications:

  1. Connecticut Special Education Teacher Certification required (165, 065 or 265).
  2. Experience with elementary students; including academic content, lesson modification, delivery of services within an inclusive environment.
  3. Must have strong collaboration and communication skills.
  4. Strong assessment and report writing skills.
  5. Strong understanding of students with disabilities in all areas.
  6. Experience with writing and implementing IEP goals and objectives and participating in PPT's.


Terms of Employment:
Part-Time (0.5 FTE) teaching assignment to begin at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Berlin Board of Education and the Berlin Education Association, (0.5 FTE position: BA Step 1 $27,398.50 - Ph.D. Max $57,308.50).  This position is not benefit eligible.
