Job description

Join our team at the YMCA of the Roses – Shrewsbury Branch as a part-time Wellness Attendant! This role offers 12–15 hours per week and is ideal for someone who is friendly, dependable, and passionate about health and wellness. Wellness Attendants help create a welcoming and safe environment for members by monitoring the fitness center, assisting with equipment, and providing excellent member service to support healthy lifestyles for all.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Attendant maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for members in the Wellness Center. Under the supervision of the Wellness Director or Coordinator, the Wellness Attendant is responsible for the services and operations offered in the Wellness Center while providing high quality services for members, participants, and guests of the YMCA. Greets everyone by using names whenever possible; extends thanks whenever appropriate; makes relationship building the number one priority at all times. The position is responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of the Roses is conveyed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  2. Develops relationships with staff, members and community partners to advance the mission of the YMCA.
  3. Enhances YMCA of the Roses membership by demonstrating the Y core values while keeping the Wellness Center a safe and pleasant environment.
  4. Cleans equipment and surrounding floor area within the Wellness Center by using proper cleaning supplies and procedures.
  5. Monitors the Wellness Center by walking the floor, kindly enforces Wellness Center rules, encourages safe and proper equipment use and equipment clean up.
  6. Follows reporting and signage procedure regarding broken or missing equipment/supplies. Maintain accurate attendance records.
  7. Reviews equipment tutorials on the Y YouTube channel and via Precor's QR codes to possess a working knowledge of equipment in wellness center.
  8. Is knowledgeable of and promotes YMCA virtual and on site programs to members.
  9. Wears appropriate and approved fitness attire, therefore being easily identifiable by members.
  10. Applies YMCA of the Roses policy/procedures for emergency situations, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  11. Serves as a role model for other staff members by demonstrating exemplary job skills and behavior.
  12. Attends required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.
  13. Maintains certification by attending CEC classes and submitting required updated paperwork to the YMCA of the USA and the YMCA of the Roses.
  14. Completes additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator/Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Obtain CPR PRO/AED/First Aid certification within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to work well with people and maintain a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of strength training and cardio equipment
  • Complete the following within 1 month of hire:
    • Living Our Cause
    • Cause Driven Tour
    • Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
    • Wellness Center at the Y training
  • Complete the following within 3 months of hire:
    • Foundations of Listen First
    • Principles of Member Health and Wellness

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to instruct and observe health seekers with proper form and technique.
  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly and 45 pounds of force occasionally.
