Job Description Summary
Umpires will work under the direction of the Recreation Specialist and Head Umpire. Umpire will: officiate games assigned by the Recreation Specialist; officiate games in the manner prescribed by the USA Softball and the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department; maintain game control and handle any rule violations; and maintain an appearance or demeanor that projects a positive, professional image.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age. Able to work evenings and weekends. Full mobility of both arms and legs to allow the ability to work, run repeatedly, bend & stoop, lift, and hold arms downward, outward, and above head. Training will be provided upon hire. Must wear an official USA umpires uniform to all games (uniforms will be provided).

Special Instructions to Applicants
As of January 1, 2015, all umpires will be paid per hour, not per game. If you work four games, you will make approximately $106.85. The figure is based on 4.5 hours worked; arrive 15 minutes before the first game and stay 15 minutes after the last game. A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in any calendar year. Temporary employees have no seniority, grievance, or appeal privileges. Temporary employees shall have no benefits except as required by law.
A temporary employee position may be full-time, part-time, variable-hour, or seasonal.
Part-Time employees do not qualify for sick, holiday, or vacation pay. Paychecks are issued bi-weekly.
