Job Description
General Description:
This position will serve as Assistant Project Manager for multiple non-capital construction projects. This includes overseeing the development, design and construction phases of the small or simple projects. This also includes assisting fellow Project Managers in the development, design, and construction phases of the projects.
Duties and Tasks:
  • Assist Project Managers of non-capital projects from initiation through close-out
  • Assist in the development of scopes of work based on client requests or based on solving building issues.
  • Assist in the development of early schedules for all assigned projects in Microsoft Project, based on given scope and required delivery dates.
  • Assists in the facilitation and monitoring of the permit approval process, ensuring that the required permits for assigned projects are obtained in a timely manner and according to project schedules.
  • Assist in the management of the bid and contract phases, and assist in the evaluation of the bid results.
  • Assist in the direction of the construction phase by frequently monitoring of project.
  • Assist a Project Manager in their responsibility for project documents including requests for information, submittals, pay applications, compliance with codes and regulatory matters, change directives, or change orders.
  • Assists a Project Manager to ensure quick close-out of projects including punch list completion, commissioning, training, as-built drawings and O&M Manual review.
  • Assists a Project Manager in their responsibility for project safety and quality assurance.
  • Maintains a project-sufficient knowledge of all College/VCCS policies and procedures, adhering to State and local procurement regulations.
  • Applies professional and technical skills and knowledge to direct design professionals through the planning process.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
KSAs:
  • General computer skills to include Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently with an elevated level of responsibility and accountability.
  • Strong time management skills are essential.
  • Ability to work productively and communicate verbally and in writing appropriately with a wide variety of personnel and contractors.
  • Willingness to learn the project development process, Microsoft Project, current codes, and environmental regulations.
  • Understanding of construction and related engineering aspects.
  • Understanding of basic Project Management principles

Minimum Work Experience:
  • Experience in working on projects.
  • Experience in assisting Project Managers across multiple project phases.
  • Unrestricted Valid Driver's License in good standing.

  • Experience with current codes (VUSBC), and environmental regulations.
