This job responds to assigned departmental maintenance needs and is responsible for the execution of repairs or replacement of affected equipment in assigned area(s). Responds to and repairs specialty systems, accelerating requests as appropriate to leader for distribution. Refers requests beyond scope of position to Facilities leader appropriately for distribution. Performs preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshoots the electro/mechanical systems utilizing specialized test equipment and hand/power tools.
PART TIME WITH WEEKENDS
Location: Ochsner Medical Center Baton Rouge
Part time (20 hours) with weekends
Education
Required - High School diploma or equivalent
Work Experience
Required - 2 years of experience in commercial, industrial or hospital maintenance
Experience with all hand and power tools
Preferred - Healthcare experience
Certifications
Required - Valid driver's license in the state of residence
Trade school or company school with a license or certification when required by a Regulatory Agency or Ochsner Health System as job duties dictates in any of the following disciplines: pneumatics, steam, electrical, electronics, hydraulics, refrigeration, welding, plumbing or machine work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must be familiar with a wide range of skilled crafts including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R and carpentry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a can-do attitude.
  • Must be mechanically inclined with the ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards.
  • Self-directed with the ability handle the mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies.
  • Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time.
  • Strong skills reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbolisms to properly interpret blueprints, schematics specifications and mechanical drawings.
  • Must be able to properly handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply effective judgment when performing job duties.
  • Must be able to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours.

Job Duties
  • Performs general inspections, troubleshooting and repairs assigned area(s).
  • Follows up on completed assignments ensuring equipment is working appropriately.
  • Responds to and repairs specialty systems, such as the nurse call system, fire alarm system, television system, medical gas system, and the ceiling system.
  • Completes preventive maintenance inspections in accordance to scheduled checkpoints and maintains documentation appropriately.
  • Assumes responsibility for any maintenance on laundry equipment, portable phones, pagers, beds, wheelchairs, surgical equipment, pneumatic tubes, SPD equipment, sterilizers, Telelifts and associated equipment within assigned area(s).
  • Performs other related duties as required.
