Job description

Family Peer Support Worker, Part-Time

Post Closing date - April 9, 2026


The Family Peer Support Worker is an integral member of the Foundry care team and must have lived experience as a caregiver supporting a young person with mental health or substance use challenges. This experience is used purposefully and professionally to provide validation, hope and practical support to families. The role involves assisting caregivers with service navigation, education, and resource information while fostering collaborative relationships that promote holistic family health and well-being. The Family Peer Support Worker assists in the delivery of Foundry center operations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

To perform the job successfully the Family Peer Support Worker must be able to perform consistently each essential duty satisfactorily. With support and direction from the supervisor, the Family Peer Support Worker duties and responsibilities include:

  • Purposefully share aspects of lived experience to validate and support caregivers, while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Provides direct non-clinical support to caregivers through emotional support, social connection, and resource sharing.
  • Assist families with system navigation, skill development, and engagement in wellness planning.
  • Organize and co-facilitate peer support and educational groups to promote skill development and foster peer-to-peer connection and networking opportunities.
  • Recommend guest speakers and support group logistics (room booking, setup, refreshments).
  • Introduce families to Foundry services and support "soft hand-offs" to other service providers.
  • Maintain accurate records, statistics, care plans, referrals and reports.
  • Provide support to caregivers with completion of questionnaires, applications, referral forms, participates in program evaluation process to determine efficacy of services, and other administrative tasks as necessary (faxing/emailing forms).

Qualifications - Education/Experience

  • Certificate in a related human/social service field or recreation course.
  • Six (6) months recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must have lived experience as a caregiver supporting a young person with mental health or substance use challenges.

  • Ability to use lived experience to provide hope and model resilience in a respectful, non-judgmental
  • Cultural humility and understanding of diverse socio-economic and cultural
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening and
  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and
  • Knowledge of mental health and community
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social

Other Job Requirements

  • Driving is required to attend meetings and to enable contact with families at home or in the community. Must have a valid driver's license and access to safe, reliable transportation, and must obtain appropriate insurance as per Society policy.

Location: Foundry Tri-Cities: #400 - 2755 Lougheed Highway, Port Coquitlam

Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week. (flexible hours and some evening hours)

HSA Benchmark: $25.55 - $29.26 JJEP Wage Grid 9
