Part Time Visual Observer information

What are some common challenges faced by Part Time Visual Observers, and how can they be addressed on the job?

Part Time Visual Observers often face challenges such as maintaining focus during long periods of observation, adapting to changing weather conditions, and effectively communicating with drone pilots or other team members. To address these challenges, it's important to take regular breaks when possible, use appropriate weather gear, and stay updated on the latest communication protocols. Staying vigilant and proactive ensures safety and compliance, which are key aspects of the role.

What is a Part Time Visual Observer?

A Part Time Visual Observer is a professional who assists with drone or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations by maintaining visual contact with the aircraft during flights. Their main role is to ensure the safety of the operation by monitoring the drone’s environment for obstacles, other aircraft, and potential hazards, and communicating any concerns to the remote pilot. This position is typically part-time, making it suitable for individuals seeking flexible work hours. Visual Observers are crucial in supporting compliance with aviation regulations and ensuring safe flight operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Visual Observer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Visual Observer, you generally need strong observational skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with aviation or drone operations, FAA Part 107 certification, and experience using communication tools such as radios or tablets are typically required. Excellent situational awareness, clear communication, and reliability are valuable soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and effective teamwork during aerial operations.
