Their responsibilities include answering research questions, helping with database searches, recommending resources, and providing guidance on using digital library materials. Working part-time, they offer flexible support to patrons who may not be able to visit the library in person, making library services more accessible. These librarians are skilled in digital communication and are knowledgeable about a wide range of information sources.

To thrive as a Part Time Virtual Reference Librarian, you need a solid understanding of information retrieval, research methods, and library science principles, typically supported by an MLS or MLIS degree. Familiarity with online library databases, integrated library systems (ILS), and virtual reference platforms like chat or email is essential.
