Job description

Texas Litter Control is hiring full-time and part-time Vet Technicians for Surgery and/or General Practice. Salary ranges from $17-$30 per hour (dependent on experience and license status). We are not corporate! TLC is a Texas Nonprofit Corporation and 501c3 public charity. We exist to help pet parents with affordable pet care. If you want to help the community, this is the job for you!

TLC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short- & long-term disability, holiday pay (and yes, your birthday is a paid holiday), paid time off, and at cost veterinary care for your personal pets. We have fun team outings like movie days where we buy out a movie theater, pig out and watch a flick. We've done Texas Ren Fest days with catered lunch and tons of fun. We also host a holiday party, usually at the Main Event, where we do more pigging out and then go shoot at each other during laser tag. :-) We are always looking at enhancing our employee benefits.

General Practice Technician Description

Support GP Veterinarian providing vet exams, diagnostics, and prescriptions/refills. Provide excellent customer service to our clients and their pets.

  • Greet customers as they enter the clinic.
  • Answer phones as needed as back up to the call center staff.
  • Book appointments.
  • Print admission forms and answer questions about services and pricing.
  • Fill prescriptions.
  • Perform adoptions on cat/kittens in lobby.
  • Clean cat cages in lobby.
  • Keep lobby clean at all times.
  • Keep storage closet organized.
  • Draw blood, administer fluids, give injections of all types, look at specimens under microscope.
  • Monitor equipment and report problems to the Executive Director as they are detected
  • Laundry
  • Mopping
  • Maintain proper stock of supplies in all areas of the clinic
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Surgery Technician Description

Prepare cats and dogs for surgery. Answer questions from pet owners during check in and check out. Watch animals through surgery and recovery. Perform standard vet tech duties as seen fit by the Veterinarian, Site Supervisor, and Clinic Manager.

  • Communicate with customers via the phone and in person about drugs, anesthesia, vaccinations, surgery related issues, post op instructions
  • Prep, monitor, and move patients throughout the surgical workflow with a huge emphasis on safety of the staff and patients.
  • Properly handle animals at all times during movements various areas and while restraining animals.
  • Basic palpation
  • Shaving, sterilizing, expressing bladders, intubation for preparation for surgery
  • Maintain proper medical records which include but are not limited to: surgical records, prescriptions, drug logs, etc.
  • Monitor recovering animals
  • Clean kennels by following Texas Litter Control’s cleaning standards
  • Make sterile surgical packs
  • Monitor equipment and report problems to the Executive Director as they are detected
  • Laundry
  • Mopping
  • Maintain proper stock of supplies in all areas of the clinic
  • Perform other duties as assigned
