Job description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuroscience PCU - Part-time, 7P

Work location: Texas Health Fort Worth, 1304 Pennsylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104
Work hours: Part-time, 24 hours weekly, 2-12 hours shifts, Night shift
Department highlights:
  • 25-bed Neuroscience PCU
  • Nurse: Patient ratio: 1:3
  • The Neuro Progressive Care Unit provides care to a patient population with neuro related injuries and pre- and post-surgical patients requiring specialized monitoring and interventions, including seizures, epilepsy and brain tumors.
    Cares for patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, management of chest tubes, vent and tracheostomy care, wound/skin care, titration of insulin drips for patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) diagnosis, respiratory compromised patients that require specialized equipment including continuous respiratory interventions, multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology, GI Bleeds, Renal/Liver Failure, Acid-Base and Electrolyte Imbalances, and cardiac abnormalities.

Here's What You Need
  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
  • BCLS - prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
  • ACLS - within 90 days of hire required
  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training - within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS - within 6 month of hire required
  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
  • PCU experience preferred - strong Telemetry candidates are encouraged to apply
  • Current Neuro experience in the acute care hospital setting preferred

In addition to the required qualifications, a successful RN will
  • demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude toward patients
  • possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism
  • have basic computer skills using medical management application systems

What You Will Do
Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
• assesses the patient
• plans the care of the patient
• intervenes as appropriate
• evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
• Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
• Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
• Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers
