Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a Part-time as Needed Construction Inspector, to join our Construction Management Team in South Florida! The position is on a Part-time as Needed (PTAN) basis, which means the hours assigned will vary depending on the workload in the area. While there are weeks when a full-time inspector is needed, there will be weeks of down time when no work will be available. This is ideal for an individual looking for that level of flexibility.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. The Construction Inspector, with the support of a strong nationally recognized technical staff, will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA / QC, and report documentation, on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal water and wastewater treatment, pump stations, SCADA, electrical, civil or other construction projects. The Inspector will report to Resident Engineer and/or Project Manager and may lead other inspectors in completing tasks and providing regular updates on daily construction activities.
Role accountabilities:
The Construction Inspector will observe and inspect construction work performed by contractors, perform punch list inspections, review drawings and specifications and other technical documents, prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports/photos and participate in project schedule and contractor invoice reviews.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Maintain quality assurance requirements and approach and monitor code compliance issues.
  • Inspect and determine deviations from general compliance with Contract Documents; clearly and professionally inform the contractor of required corrections.
  • Review submittals and other construction documents and recommend technical solutions.
  • Attend and participate in construction meetings, safety meetings/updates and project site coordination meetings.
  • Monitor and document contractor resource utilization (labor, materials, and equipment) for field changes, and time and material work and assist with negotiation of basic field construction changes.
  • Verify equipment and materials installation for payment purposes.
  • Maintain Payment Quantity documentation.
  • Perform mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities.
  • While performing daily inspections, inspector will be required to ensure Arcadis' project safety guidelines are being met.
  • Local travel will include project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, construction oversight, etc.

Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
5 years of mechanical/civil/utility construction inspection experience.
Key Skills/Attributes
Key skills for this role include; identifying, analyzing, and providing innovative solutions to problems, along with a high level of math aptitude, ability to multi-task several priorities and possess solid time management skills, and proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint, and Outlook). This position requires the employee to work year-round in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications for this role include; 8 or more years of civil/utility construction inspection experience, experience with structural/mechanical/electrical construction inspection activities on small to larger sized infrastructure construction projects, NASSCO ITCP / PACP certifications, ACI or NICET certifications, OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training, and Active participation in a regional or national professional association.
