Job description

Position Title:Lecturer in MathematicsAppointment Type:FacultyJob Description:

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a term faculty position at the rank of Lecturer. The primary duties consist of teaching courses, including, but not limited to: College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Business Math, and Calculus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality undergraduate education in these courses.Initial appointment is one academic year beginning 8/16/2026, teaching 3 courses per semester (75% full-time equivalency). Renewal parameters are determined by performance and department need. Term faculty members are not eligible for tenure but have potential to be reviewed for advancement into senior term faculty ranks.

A successful candidate will have an excellent record in teaching courses at the undergraduate level in a variety of courses. They will also have a record of proficiency with learning management systems such as ALEKS, MyLabs, and Canvas.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mathematics or similar discipline

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses

  • Evidence of ability to work with various student, faculty, and staff populations

  • Proficient in software systems such as ALEKS, MyLabs, and Canvas

Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Mathematics resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offering B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The Department is also active in interdepartmental programs in Data Science at the undergraduate level as well as Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human-Computer Interactions, and Information Assurance at the graduate level. The teaching mission of the department includes substantial numbers of students whose programs of study are housed within the Colleges of Engineering and Business. A typical teaching load for full-time term faculty is 4 courses per semester. The Department of Mathematics has 45 faculty professionals, 70 Ph.D. and M.S. students, and approximately 170 B.S. students. We have strong research and educational programs in discrete mathematics, algebra, logic, analysis and probability, numerical analysis, geometric analysis and PDE's. The department participates in many interdisciplinary research collaborations, including partnerships with faculty in biosciences, computer science, and several engineering programs.
