What is a part time union land surveyor?

Part time union land surveyors are professionals who measure and map land, boundaries, and construction sites, working fewer hours than full-time employees. They are represented by a labor union, which helps negotiate wages, benefits, and working conditions on their behalf. These surveyors often assist with projects such as property development, road construction, and legal boundary disputes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. Their union membership often gives them access to job protections, training, and collective bargaining.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time union land surveyor?

To thrive as a Part Time Union Land Surveyor, you need a solid understanding of surveying principles, math, and geography, typically backed by relevant certifications or an associate degree in surveying or a related field. Familiarity with surveying instruments (like total stations and GPS), CAD software, and compliance with union safety standards is essential. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication set standout surveyors apart in the field. These skills ensure accurate measurements, safe practices, and seamless collaboration on construction and land development projects.

What are the typical work schedules and expectations for a part time union land surveyor?

Part time union land surveyors often work flexible hours, which can vary depending on project timelines, weather, and client needs. While some tasks may require early morning starts or occasional weekend work, schedules are typically coordinated in advance through the union and project managers. Surveyors are expected to collaborate closely with other team members, such as engineers and construction crews, to ensure accurate site measurements and documentation. Understanding the union's guidelines about shift assignments and overtime eligibility is helpful for managing workload and expectations.
