These positions typically include monitoring surveillance equipment, patrolling assigned areas, checking identification, and reporting suspicious activity. Unarmed security officers may work in places like offices, retail stores, schools, or events, and their primary responsibility is to deter crime through a visible presence and quick response. Since these roles are part time, schedules can vary and may include evenings, nights, or weekends. Applicants usually need a high school diploma, a clean background, and sometimes a security license depending on state laws.
