Job Description:

Savannah Technical College is seeking qualified candidates for Adult Education High School Equivalency (HSE)/GED and ESL tutors. This program is grant-funded.

Under general supervision, the Tutor provides tutoring to adult education GED and ESL students for the purpose of providing tutorial services in Math, English/Reading, Science, or Social Studies. Demonstrates the use of appropriate tutoring techniques. Provides positive feedback. Discusses student progress with appropriate staff/faculty. Maintains a positive, warm attitude that encourages the student(s) to learn. Demonstrates the use of appropriate assessment procedures and proper maintenance of appropriate record-keeping. Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills. Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student. Maintains classrooms and labs in accordance with institutional safety guidelines. Attends meetings as required and appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Current college student or college graduate with an overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the subject area to be tutored from a regionally accredited institution *or* outside applicant that demonstrates the ability and experience in the subject field.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree graduate or beyond in the subject area to be tutored.

Physical Demands

Work is typically performed in a tutoring center or office environment with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts objects of a light to medium weight, up to 25lbs.
