About Mill Creek Education

Mill Creek Education is a locally owned tutoring and college-preparation center serving middle and high school students in the Mill Creek area. For more than 15 years, we have provided individualized academic tutoring, SAT and AP preparation, and college admissions support.

Most of our tutoring is one-on-one, allowing our tutors to get to know their students and adapt instruction to each student's individual needs.

The Position

Mill Creek Education is looking for an experienced English educator to join our tutoring team. We are particularly looking for someone comfortable supporting students across a broad range of middle and high school English courses, from foundational reading and writing skills through advanced and AP-level coursework.

Our English tutors may work with students on:

• Middle and high school English coursework
• Reading comprehension and literary analysis
• Grammar, vocabulary, and writing skills
• Essay and research-paper development
• AP English Language and AP English Literature
• SAT Reading and Writing preparation
• College application essays

The ability to tutor high school history or AP History courses in addition to English is highly desirable.

Most lessons are private, one-on-one sessions. Tutors are responsible for planning instruction based on each student's individual needs rather than following a prescribed curriculum for every student. We are looking for an educator who is comfortable working independently, identifying areas for growth, and adapting instruction as students progress.

A Long-Term Role

Continuity matters to us. Whenever possible, we match students with a tutor they can continue working with over time rather than moving them between instructors. This allows tutors to build strong relationships with their students, understand how they learn, and support their progress from one class or academic year to the next.

Because of this, we are looking for someone interested in becoming a long-term member of our tutoring team, rather than someone seeking a short-term or temporary position. We understand that schedules and circumstances change, but we hope to find an educator who can grow their student roster with us and continue supporting those students over multiple school years.

Scheduling and Hours

This is a year-round, initially part-time position, with hours that naturally fluctuate throughout the academic year. Tutors provide us with the days and hours they are available, and we match students to them as tutoring needs arise. New tutors should expect to build their student roster gradually rather than begin with a full schedule.

Demand is typically highest during the school year, with additional increases around major testing periods such as AP exams. Summer schedules are generally lighter, although tutoring continues throughout the summer and daytime hours become available when school is not in session.

Tutors who would like a larger teaching load can continue adding students as opportunities become available. Over time, this can grow into a substantial schedule and potentially full-time hours, but we cannot guarantee a specific number of hours or a particular timeline for reaching that level. Applicants should be comfortable beginning part-time and with some seasonal variation in their schedule.

During the school year, most lessons are scheduled between 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM Monday through Friday. Summer lessons may be scheduled earlier in the day. Weekend availability is welcome but not required.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred.
• At least two years of teaching, tutoring, or closely related instructional experience
• Experience working with middle and/or high school students
• Strong knowledge of secondary-level English, including reading, writing, grammar, and literary analysis
• Ability to support students working at different academic levels
• Strong lesson-planning and organizational skills
• Ability to connect with students and create a welcoming, productive learning environment
• Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work independently
• Interest in a long-term tutoring role and building ongoing relationships with students
• SAT Reading and Writing preparation experience

Especially valuable:

• Experience teaching or tutoring AP English Language and/or AP English Literature
• Experience teaching or tutoring high school history, including AP courses
• College application essay coaching experience
