Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Since its beginnings, Trees Atlanta’s goals have been to plant new trees, conserve existing trees, replace trees lost to development and hazards, and educate the public on the many benefits of trees. Trees Atlanta has become one of the most widely-known and respected non-profits locally, as well as nationally, for their work as stewards of our urban environment. To date, Trees Atlanta has planted and cared for over 140,000 trees in metro Atlanta.

Job Description

The Urban Trees Lead is a crew member on a landscape installation crew that specializes in maintaining tree maintenance. The Urban Trees Lead will assist with large project tree maintenance under the direction of the Urban Trees Supervisor. Planting and maintenance of the tree palette occurs throughout the Greater Atlanta area and the daily outlook typically includes spotting for your teammates in traffic, driving work trucks and trailers, and manually finishing planting projects with backfilling, mulching, pruning, watering,and cleanup.

The Urban Trees Lead will:

  • Perform tree care and maintenance, including but not limited to watering, mulching, pruning, staking, insecticide application, reconstructing tree berms, patching erosion, weeding tree wells, inspecting and evaluating tree health.

  • Complete additional assigned work, including truck checks, inventory checks, equipment inspections, updating tree information in ArcGIS, and daily timesheets.

  • Use Google Workspace to stay organized and communicate within the organization.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 months of experience in landscape installation OR a year of experience in a similar line of work such as construction, hardscape installation, irrigation installation, site/drainage work, agriculture or gardening. A degree is not necessary to do this job but a passion for arboriculture, horticulture, conservation, forestry, urban ecology and/or community improvement are all desirable.

  • Outstanding interpersonal communication and ability to relate to other employees.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of safety around heavy machinery and construction sites, as well as health and safety standards for the crew.

  • Have familiarity of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Professional and be comfortable with utilizing various online and desktop based software (working knowledge or exposure to ArcGIS helpful)

Physical Requirements:

  • At least 21 years old with a 3-year with clear driving history.

  • Ability to drive a truck with a loaded trailer.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background screening, drug test, and DOT physical.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive, moderate to strenuous physical activity in the field and lift up to 70 pounds.

  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions at all times of year.

This position is a seasonal/temporary assignment with a 90-day probationary period. Permanent employment is not guaranteed and is based on budget and program needs. Hours are adjusted to meet seasonal part-time needs.
