Compensation: Estimated $28–$38 per hour, including tips, depending on experience, event type, event volume, and performance.


Italic Catering is seeking part-time Catering Captains to help lead the successful execution of exceptional catered events. As our catering and events business continues to grow, this role offers the opportunity to evolve into a full-time leadership position for the right candidates.


We are looking for leaders who believe that great events are built through preparation, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. This is more than a banquet captain role. The ideal candidate is an organized, solutions-oriented professional who leads by teaching rather than doing everything themselves, follows established systems while seeking opportunities to improve them, and takes ownership of delivering seamless guest experiences.

The ideal Catering Captain follows systems consistently, develops the people around them, treats company resources responsibly, anticipates challenges before they arise, and leaves every event asking:

Compensation:

$28 - $38 hourly


Responsibilities:

Event Execution & Hospitality

  • Lead the setup, service, and breakdown of catered events.
  • Serve as the on-site leader and primary point of contact for clients, venues, vendors, and staff.
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality while maintaining a calm, professional, and solutions-oriented approach.


Event Preparation & Planning

  • Conduct assigned venue walkthroughs and review event details, timelines, floor plans, and logistics.
  • Anticipate challenges, communicate proactively, and ensure events are thoroughly prepared for successful execution.


Systems & Accountability

  • Follow established procedures and utilize required checklists without exception.
  • Verify that all food, beverages, equipment, rentals, and supplies are accounted for before departure and upon completion of the event.
  • Conduct final inspections to prevent forgotten items and communicate operational concerns promptly.


Team Leadership

  • Lead, delegate, and support event staff to ensure efficient execution and a positive work environment.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings, clearly communicate expectations, and coach team members during events.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality.


Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and guest experience.
  • Participate in post-event debriefs and contribute ideas that strengthen systems and processes.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to learn and adapt.


Labor Stewardship

  • Execute events using staffing plans established by leadership.
  • Utilize assigned team members effectively and release staff according to approved schedules.
  • Obtain approval before authorizing overtime, extending shifts, or making changes that increase labor costs.
  • Balance exceptional service with responsible stewardship of company resources.

Qualifications:
  • Previous catering, banquet, restaurant, or hospitality leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and execute multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing others.
  • Growth mindset with a desire to continuously improve systems, processes, and performance.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while exercising sound judgment.
  • Comfortable using technology, digital communication tools, and operational checklists.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift or transport catering equipment as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on event schedules.
